What is a Limited Jurisdiction Court in AZ?

Justice of the peace courts and municipal (or city) courts are limited jurisdiction courts, meaning their authority is restricted to certain types of cases. Cases may be limited by subject matter, the dollar amount involved, or the sentence that can be imposed. These courts handle traffic violations, minor criminal offenses, small claims, and civil disputes — providing accessible, community-level justice throughout Arizona.
